About this tool

This internet speed test measures your connection directly in the browser using real network transfers — no plugin, no app install, no account. It runs parallel download streams, a live-progress upload, sequential ping samples, and an HTTP-level packet-loss approximation, then scores the result against use-case-specific thresholds for gaming, streaming, and video calls.

Every number on this page comes from a live measurement in this session — there's no simulated or cached data. If a metric can't be measured (blocked by CORS, offline, or the endpoint is unreachable), that card shows a clear fallback message instead of a fabricated number.

What is download speed?

Download speed is how fast data can move from the internet to your device, measured in megabits per second (Mbps). It's what determines how quickly pages load, videos buffer, and files finish downloading.

What is upload speed?

Upload speed is how fast data moves from your device out to the internet — sending files, streaming to viewers, or transmitting your video/audio during a call. It's usually lower than download speed on most home connections.

What is ping?

Ping (latency) is the round-trip time, in milliseconds, for a small packet to reach a server and come back. Lower is better — it directly affects how responsive gaming, video calls, and any real-time interaction feel.

What is jitter?

Jitter is the variation in ping from one measurement to the next. Even with a low average ping, high jitter causes stuttering in calls and games because packets arrive at inconsistent intervals.

What is packet loss?

Packet loss is the percentage of data packets that never arrive. True packet loss is measured at the network (ICMP) level, which browsers cannot access — this tool instead reports the fraction of small HTTP requests that failed or timed out as an approximation, clearly labeled as such.

What internet speed is good for gaming?

For gaming, ping and jitter matter far more than raw throughput — most competitive games only need 3-10 Mbps, but ping under 30-40ms and low jitter make the difference between a smooth and a laggy experience.

What speed is recommended for streaming?

Standard HD streaming is comfortable around 5-10 Mbps sustained download. 4K streaming needs considerably more headroom — 25 Mbps or higher sustained — to avoid buffering and quality drops, especially with other devices sharing the connection.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my results differ from other speed test sites?

Different tools use different servers, protocols, and stream counts, so results won't be perfectly identical between tools even on the same connection at the same moment. Use any single tool consistently over time to track real trends rather than comparing one-off numbers across different sites.

Is the packet loss number accurate?

It's an honest HTTP-level approximation, not true ICMP packet loss — browsers have no access to raw ICMP. Treat a high value as a signal worth investigating with a dedicated network tool, not a precise measurement.

Why did my test show partial results?

If any single metric fails — a blocked CORS request, a dropped connection, or you click Stop — that card shows a clear fallback message and the rest of the test continues or finalizes with whatever was measured.

Does this work on mobile browsers?

Yes, though the Network Information API (Connection Type) is only available on Chromium-based mobile browsers — Safari will show "Not available in this browser" for that field, which is expected.
